Unveiling
Global Engineering Marvels

IDEA NS will create a traveling exhibit with items curated from different cultures around the world, including several indigenous nations within Canada. The exhibit will have items that show engineering and technological achievements from a non-Eurocentric perspective.

Innovation Beyond Boundaries

The causes of low representation of Indigenous groups, women, racialized people, and those at the intersections of these identities stems in part from stereotypes that are perpetuated of scientists and engineers.

Traditional curriculums and media has focused on achievements from the West, and it is promoted that innovation is linear and always expanding. However, innovations from other groups have often been erased through colonialism and other systemic ways. Highlighting non-Western accomplishments will help visitors envision engineering in a different light. Individuals of all ages from equity deserving groups will be able to see that innovations have been developed from individual like them and build efficacy in their own abilities.
